Prettiest road in America (in our opinion)

Not the best beach day. 💨Or maybe it’s early Spring, or better yet a brilliant Fall day. Head over to the North side and ride Route 6A (Old King’s Highway). I had a class in West Barnstable, so I took the scenic route and boy was I glad! 🍁🍂

Dozens of historic homes, many of which were homes of wealthy sea 🐳captains. Keep your eyes off the road (if you’re not driving of course) because there are shops, galleries, little coffee shops – ☕️everything one of a kind, but they come up fast and might be tucked away in a blanket of New England charm. 🏡

The Sturgis library (America’s oldest library) sits grandly in Barnstable – speaking of books, do not miss Parnassian Books – old, haunty, sometimes grumpy octogenarians at the register (just ask my daughter) but it’s an amazing place with rare finds, fun smelly aisles and just assuming a few ghosts.

Inaho Japanese Restaurant is delicious (must make a reservation in season). Up the road is Fin, try the lobster donut and Pheasant (I try not to name favorites but this one is ours – ok I said it) owned by Adam & Erica (also owners of Dunn & Sons wine shop – they know their wines – free tastings on Saturdays). Again, in season make reservations.

Stopped at Harvest Moon farm in Barnstable. That’s where the ducks and chickens resided. All local things in the shop – veges too of course – jams, nuts, eggs (yes those chickens are busy), soaps, essential oils – cute place to visit.

Drive, look, smile, breathe. It’s a breathtaking drive.
